Wei Shen is an Associate Professor in Bioinformatics at Institute for Viral Hepatitis, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Chongqing Medical University. He obtained his Ph.D degree in Microbiology from Third Military Medical University in 2017 (Advisor: Fuquan Hu), MSc in Bioinformatics there in 2013 (Advisor: Yan Li), and BSc in Bioinformatics from Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2010. He joined Hong Ren lab at the Institute for Viral Hepatitis to be trained as postdoc in 2020. He visited Zamin Iqbal’s group at EMBL-EBI from October 2023 to September 2024.

His work focuses on algorithm development to better analyze microbial genomic data, such as million-scale prokaryotic genome indexing and alignment (LexicMap), metagenomic profiling and clinical pathogen detection (KMCP), taxonomy data processing (TaxonKit), fast and versatile FASTA/Q toolkit (SeqKit).
